English abstract:
Modern electronic laboratory instruments frequently can be interfaced from a computer, commonly using either a serial port or an IEEE-488 bus. This allows to control the instruments from a local PC and to perform measurements in a more or less automated way. However, each instrument has its own controlling commands which makes it hard to use a large number of different instruments. This led to the idea to create a common script language to use with any instrument, which can translate meta commands from a command file to real instrument commands. This language also allows to control the sequence of a command file with checking conditions. The execution of the commands can also be put in a timing order. An instrument will be described using a normal text file in the style of an INI-file with sections and assignments. This file contains all necessary parameters to access the instrument either over the serial port or an IEEE-488 bus. All commands that can possibly be sent to the instrument are defined in this file, too. The INI-file also describes how the response of an command shall be handled. The results of a measurement can be stored in parameters for further usage or written to a text file. The format of this output file can be defined in the INI-file. A command file can be created using any text editor and it can be executed when given to the measurement program as a parameter. The system can be configured in many ways. Each instrument can be plugged to one computer, or a computer can control various instruments. This DOS-based measurement program was extended using web pages which provide many input elements to create command files. It also allows to use and combine predefined command sets. The other important task of the web page is the user-friendly display of the resulting measurement data. There are many different ways to display the results in graphics or text. The web server uses PHP to dynamically create web pages for setting up a command file and displaying the results. The connection between the web server and the measurement computer is performed through network drive connections. A directory on the web server is shared with the measurement computer, and the DOS program can access it through a DOS drive letter. This directory will be the working directory for the measurement computer. Command files are stored in this directory by the web server and the DOS program will put the results there, too. The intelligence of the system is all combined inside the DOS program running on the measurement computer, which performs the measurement and provides the results. The web pages use all the information created by the DOS program to display it in an user-friendly way. All results will remain stored on the web server until the user decides to delete them. Therefore it is possible to perform a series of measurements, which can be archived later. There is also the possibility to download the results into a local text file, which can be imported into any other application to reuse the measurement data.
